Claims versus practice
Most listings say something like “shipped cold” or “temperature controlled,” but that phrase alone doesn’t confirm anything about actual practice. The specifics matter more than the claim.
What specifics to look for
A supplier that’s serious about cold-chain shipping will usually be explicit: insulated packaging, the type of cooling used (ice packs, gel packs), and how they handle same-day versus longer transit times. Vague language with no specifics is worth following up on directly.
Questions that reveal the real answer
Asking directly how an order is packed, and whether that changes for longer delivery routes (rural areas, islands), tends to separate suppliers who’ve actually thought this through from ones repeating a marketing phrase.
Photos and unboxing content
Some UK suppliers show or describe exactly what arrives: insulated liner, ice pack placement, vial position within the box. This level of detail is a reasonably strong signal of an established, repeatable process rather than an occasional afterthought.
What arriving warm actually tells you
If a package arrives warm to the touch, with a fully melted ice pack and no other insulation, that’s a sign the cold chain likely wasn’t maintained for at least part of the journey, regardless of what the listing claimed beforehand.
